Conversation Café ~ March 24, 2012

Bravo and thank you to all those whose participations made the last Conversation Café a great success.

The best part of last week's Café was the role play activity during which we had to use our acting skills to play the parts of shoplifter, security guard, and judges.

We also discussed the ethics of stealing.  Is it ever right to steal?  And we learned some synonyms for the verb TO STEAL.  How many English words can you think of for the verb TO STEAL.

By the way, if you would like to join us in the Conversation Café, please contact Michele atteacher.michele.chester@gmail.com.

The Conversation Café will  take place every Saturday until April 14.  We will use the text book HOT TOPICS by Cheryl Pavlik to discuss burning issues of the day.

Conversation Café ~ March 10, 2012

Thanks for all those who made the last Conversation Café so interesting and fun.

We talked about gambling addiction and the case of Arelia Taveras.

We then discussed the pros and cons of legalizing prostitution.

Finally, we took the HOT TOPIC challenge.  I gave everyone $1,200 in virtual money.  I then showed the Café participants 10 sentences and they had to bet their virtual money and decide whether the sentences were correct or incorrect.

Congratulations to Satoshi who had $1,620 after all the wages were counted.

You can watch the recordings of our LAS VEGAS-themed conversations by clicking here: THE FEBRUARY-MARCH 2012 CONVERSATION CAFE.

If you would like to join us in the Conversation Café, please contact Michele at teacher.michele.chester@gmail.com.

The Conversation Café will  take place every Saturday until April 14.  We will use the HOT TOPICS book to discuss the issues in Chapter 6 (Shoplifting) and Chapter 7 (Gluttony).  We hope to see you!
